Another day of hard work at the school. We have been moving clay to fill in the floor, throwing more bricks and painting beams for the roof to stop the termites from eating it!
We have finished all of the painting work at Mang’ula Primary School. The last two nights we have camped at Udzungwa Primary School (Jo finally got to use his solar shower!) and have been working hard to get the classrooms completed. 150 Tanzanian Scouts joined us for activities yesterday, including stretcher races, boules, football, knots and team work challenges. There was then a massive campfire in the evening where we joined in with singing, dancing and clapping along. Ruairi definitely won the prize for best dancer! Tonight we are having a rest in a hotel in Ifakara, just had chicken and chips for lunch. Tomorrow is back to project work, we have 4 days to complete everything!
Yesterday was spent at Mangula Primary School. They had two classrooms and an office with rotten woodwork. We funded for this to be replaced. Now our efforts are going into painting the walls. Yesterday we managed the first coat of whitewash and one of the blackboards, today we will finish the second coat and the other two blackboards.
GCSE results came through yesterday, all did great – well done team!
We’ve had a great time in Dar Es Salaam, eating great food and enjoying being next to the ocean. The sunrise was beautiful this morning. We are now travelling to Morogoro to stay at the national Scout campsite. We’ve managed to get exam results and all have done amazingly well (such a smart team that we have!) Everybody is well and having a fantastic time.
Hello from Tanzania!
We have all arrived safely and slept well (although only for 3 hours!) with sounds of the ocean in the background. After a bit of shopping, we spoilt ourself with a very yummy lunch. This afternoon we are going for a swim in the sea and plan to catch up with some sleep.
